Ex-offender Reintegration Overcoming the Past

How does it feel to return home town after imprisoned abroad several years? Our service user, Ryan, was being interviewed by RTHK radio programme to share his 7- year life in Japanese prison. When he returned to Hong Kong, our social workers helped him gradually integrate into the society and regain his goals. He encourages other ex-offenders, “It doesn't matter if you went in the wrong direction once, the most important thing is to find the right way now."

Overcome Adversity with Fitness Embarking on Entrepreneurship

We always encourage ex-offenders to look for self-enhancement in adversity. Rizzy, our service user, has overcome the low tide of life through fitness exercises in prison, and regained his goals. He hopes to help and guide other ex-offenders to be fitness coaches, equipped themselves with skills. Now, he is planning to apply for funds to establish a coaching team composed of ex-offenders to promote fitness exercise in the community.   Rizzy, together with our Hong Kong Revival Hub Supervisor Mr. Tom Tse and Social Worker of “Hang Seng Youth Career Planning Scheme” Ms. Bernice Lam, were being interviewed by Ming Pao to share the challenges faced by ex-offenders in their rehabilitation and how SRACP helped them reintegrate into the community.

Love Delivery Under COVID-19

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, 24-hour chained fast food restaurants adjusted their operation hour, which caused the disadvantaged group- homeless people losing the shelter at night, they worried about the health and personal safety at the same time.   Funded by Jockey Club “COVID-19 Emergency Fund”, SRACP launched a short-term project “Love Delivery under COVID-19” at two service areas in Kowloon West in May by driving two 60-seat coaches to designated spots, outreaching teams approaching homeless / street sleepers to provide timely care and support to them in time of hardship.   Ms. Anthea LEE Shuk Wai, Chief Executive together with Mr. Brian Wong, SRACP Supervisor and Kevin, project assistant were being interviewed by Topick. In addition to introducing details and concepts of the project, they also shared their memorable experience during outreach.

SRACP is an intermediary of the SIE Fund responsible for designing and administering the innovative programme "BEHub", which aims to inspire and nurture the disadvantaged groups and the public to become social innovators to address the challenges relating to poverty and social exclusion faced by the disadvantaged groups, especially rehabilitated persons, current or ex-drug abusers, ethnic minorities, youth-at-risks, people with disabilities or persons in recovery, through innovative solutions.   Ms. Anthea Lee Shuk-wai, Chief Executive of SRACP was being interviewed by SIE Fund, pointed out disadvantaged groups are unpolished gemstones which can glow and shine with a little assistance. By providing training, mentorship and a resourceful network, SRACP assists the disadvantaged groups to develop creative thinking and to design and deploy innovative solutions to tackle social problems, in order to encourage the positive development of their personality growth.

「甦屋2.0」–別具意義的安樂窩
“So Uk 2.0” – A Comfortable and Meaningful Home

The 4th So Uk of SRACP was officially launched in February this year which is located at Staunton Street, Sheung Wan. The project aims to promote multi-generational co-living environment and the spirit of mutual help at neighbourhood level in the community. It provides six units with 24 spaces in total, for deprived singletons including ex-offenders, persons in recovery and out-of-home youths from different age groups and background, in which cross generation co-living model is promoted.   Ms. Anthea LEE Shuk Wai, Chief Executive and two tenants Wendy and Uncle Bill were being interviewed by the "HKCSS Channel". In addition to introducing details and concepts of the project, the two tenants also share their daily lives in So Uk 2.0.

SRACP launches “Happy Learning Thro' Play” for disadvantaged groups

Classes were suspended for months because of the continuous coronavirus outbreak, caregivers are under great pressure at this critical time. In order to alleviate the anxiety of affected communities, SRACP launched a project “Happy Learning Thro' Play” to provide multiple choices of toys, books and learning resources for the service users’ families during class suspension period. It is hoped that both children and parents can have more interactions through playing toys and family games, meanwhile to reduce the stress of the caregivers.

Work Together Fight The New Coronavirus Epidemic

    Affected by the spreading of the COVID-19 in Hong Kong, the disadvantaged group’s livelihoods are under pressure, especially for the rehabilitated persons. Interviewed by HK01, Roy (employee of Bright Service Company Limited – BS) shared the difficulties he encountered under the coronavirus - many events and exhibitions were cancelled since Lunar New Year, which severely affected his income. He is worried that rehabilitated people have fewer opportunities to be employed in the market. Being a social enterprise established by SRACP, BS try to coordinate a short-term positions for Roy, such as driver and porter to tackle the urgent problem. The general market, however, is difficult to recover in no time, the social enterprise itself is facing rigorous challenges, how can BS survive from this unprecedented situation?
